Photo from Denver Puppet Theater
It was weird.
1. The theater is located in a beyond sketchy part of west Denver. But it has a beautiful courtyard with a fountain, tables, chairs, an arbor and an angora rabbit in a hutch.
2. The courtyard was charming and I wanted to recreate it in my backyard (old wine bottles (most were old) used as a border, so cool).
3. There was a house behind the building where I assume the owners live.
4. When you walk into the theater part there are puppets hanging all over the walls. Old puppets, foreign puppets, mostly marionettes but a few regular hand kind. It was a nightmare waiting to happen.
5. The lady came out, greeted us, and after an awkward little song about staying in your seat she disappeared behind the curtain.
6. The lady wrote and performed the piece herself-- down to all the annoying voices. The plot fell apart and ended with no resolution. John got bored, Kitty laughed like crazy.
It was a strange cross between The Sound of Music and Being John Malkovich.
I hope you sleep well tonight, I will be dreaming of Punch and Judy... and Chucky.
